Chargers Soccer Club is proud to continuing serving the New Tampa area since the mid 1990s as New Tampa Soccer Association and then as Fusion FC and now as the Chargers Soccer Club.  We may have a new name, but it is the same great program and staff.

Chargers SC welcomes you and your young player(s) to another exciting season of recreational soccer. Our season runs from October to early February.  Players will receive an entire uniform package consisting of Nike jersey, Nike soccer shorts, and Nike soccer socks. Teams are coached by a volunteer coach under the supervision of the Director of Soccer and the Tampa Technical Director.

General Recreational Program Philosophy

The primary goal of the Chargers recreational soccer program is to offer every player the opportunity to enjoy participating in the game of soccer within a learning/teaching environment. Our recreational program is not about winning, it is about teaching, so that the young players have fun, learn to love the game of soccer and become as skilled a player as possible.

Organization

Our recreational soccer program is for boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 18 and provides an environment to play soccer in a fun and organized format.  Our recreational soccer program is divided into two areas: In-House Rec. and Traveling Rec. (TARSA).  Games are played at Benito Middle School for In-House Rec.  TARSA teams will practice and play their home games at New Tampa Community Park.  Also, see Age Group Matrix to determine the right age group for your child.

Here is small overview of our two different programs:

In-House Rec: Our in- house recreational soccer program is for children between the ages of 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 years of age. All practices and games are played at Benito Middle School. One of the identifying factors of In-house recreational soccer is the distribution of talent across the teams in each age division. This is done in order to ensure more equitable competitions. Chargers attempts to accomplish this by distributing the current talent pool to each of our teams based on each player’s age, level of experience and a subjective evaluation of the player’s skill level by coaching staff familiar with that player’s abilities.

Traveling Rec. (TARSA): Traveling Rec. soccer is for older boys and girls.  Boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 18 participate in this program.  Practices and home games are played at New Tampa Community Park.  These teams play against other recreational soccer teams from the surrounding areas in the TARSA league. This league is coordinated with other local clubs and involves minimal travel within the Tampa Bay area. For additional specific TARSA information please click here to go to the TARSA website or click on the link in the right margin.

Coaches/Volunteers

Our Recreational program can’t be successful without the support and participation of parent volunteers. Each season we depend on individual parents to help us by coaching one of our many recreational teams. The need of volunteer parents is crucial to the success of our program. We hope you consider involving yourself in helping us with your child. No experience is required to coach, we have a staff that will support and mentor you throughout the season. We will offer coaching courses and trainings to provide you with the background knowledge that you will need.  If you have any questions about coaching, please feel free to contact Maggie Pesaresi at Maggie@chargerssoccer.com

Practices/Games

Practices should start middle of October. All games will be play on Saturday’s beginning October 19th for traveling teams and November 1st for in-house teams going through the beginning of February with breaks for the holidays.  Games schedules will be released once teams are formed.  We will have a recreational calendar up soon.

Fields/Equipment/Facilities

Chargers SC does not own the soccer fields on which we play. We use, help maintain and manage the fields that belong to the City of Tampa/Hillsborough County School District.  In order to maintain good working relationships with the field owners, we ask that all players, parents, and spectators treat each field with care and respect and follow all county and city ordinances in effect. This includes the prohibition of alcoholic beverages and animals on the park grounds and smoking inside the playing field fence.
